Draft Climate Change Policy

In short

Update August 2026:

At the 18 August Ordinary Meeting of Council, a report will be considered regarding the Climate Change Policy.

The report recommends that Council endorse the Climate Change Policy, which includes minor amendments informed by the review of public exhibition submissions.

Feedback was open until Sunday 21 June. Feedback is currently being reviewed.

About the project

CONSULTATION NOW CLOSED

Council is required to regularly review and revise its Climate Change Policy to ensure it remains consistent with the latest climate science and best practice climate policy frameworks.

The updated Climate Change Policy incorporates:

  • a revised Policy Statement, updated with current climate findings
  • a range of expanded policy principles
  • updated policy objectives, including interim emissions targets and a 100% electrification target for Council facilities.

Once adopted, the Climate Change Policy will inform a subsequent review and update of Council’s Net Zero Strategy.
