Fiddens Wharf Road, Killara - Proposed full-time No Right Turn at Pacific Highway

In short

Council is proposing to introduce a full-time No Right Turn restriction at the intersection of Fiddens Wharf Road and Pacific Highway, Killara.

This would replace the current time-based restriction, which prohibits right turns between 6am–10am and 3pm–7pm, Monday to Friday.

Review the details below and share your feedback through the survey or submissions form on this page.

Feedback is open until Friday 29 May.

Project background

Right turns are currently permitted from Fiddens Wharf Road onto Pacific Highway between 10am and 3pm, and 7pm and 6am on weekdays. Right turns are also permitted on weekends.

Council has received numerous complaints about right turning vehicles on Fiddens Wharf Road, causing extensive queuing and delays for left turning vehicles.

Council recently engaged consultants to carry out traffic counts at the intersection on a typical weekday, as well as filming the intersection. The counts showed that approximately 30 vehicles per hour turned right from Fiddens Wharf Road between 10am and 3pm. The video footage showed that some vehicles waited for extended periods to turn right, and some vehicles were turning right when there wasn’t a safe gap to do so.

See our map of alternative routes where motorists can safely turn right onto Pacific Highway at signalised intersections. As only approximately 30 vehicles per hour are turning right from Fiddens Wharf Road, it is expected that the proposed changes will have minimal impact on the surrounding road network.
