Background
Council has received multiple requests for a roundabout to be constructed at this intersection. Killeaton Street carries high volumes of traffic, and it can be difficult to turn right from Warrimoo Avenue or Caringal Place, particularly during morning and afternoon peak periods.
Council engaged consultants to carry out an intersection count and take video footage of the site during am and pm peak periods. The counts showed that a significant number of vehicles turned right from Warrimoo Avenue. The video footage showed that through traffic on Killeaton Street often had to stop to let vehicles turn right from either Warrimoo Avenue or Caringal Place, as there were otherwise no gaps to safely turn right.
Proposed changes
Traffic modelling has been carried out, which shows that a roundabout would have minimal impact on through traffic, in terms of overall delays. This proposal is currently unfunded, but Council will seek to fund the project if there is public support for it.
