Kintore Street, Wahroonga - Proposed speed cushions - Phase 2 community consultation

Project Overview

The council previously consulted residents about installing speed cushions on Kintore Street, Wahroonga. Following feedback, the proposal has been revised, and input is again being sought for the section between Eastern Road and Wahroonga Avenue.

Since the Eastern Road roundabout was built, residents have reported increased traffic volumes and speeding on Kintore Street. Although overall traffic remains relatively low, volumes have risen significantly since the roundabout’s construction.

Consultation closes Friday 3 October 2025

Background

In March 2025 Council wrote to the residents of Kintore Street regarding a proposal to install speed cushions at 3 locations between Grosvenor Street and Eastern Road.  A roundabout was also proposed at the intersection with Wahroonga Avenue.  There was a high level of support for speed cushions from residents living between Eastern Road and Wahroonga Avenue.  However, there was a high level of opposition to the speed cushions from residents living between Wahroonga Avenue and Grosvenor Street.  There was very little support for the roundabout.

Proposed changes

Speed cushions are now proposed at 2 locations between Eastern Road and Wahroonga Avenue.  A row of 3 speed cushions is proposed outside #67, while a row of 2 speed cushions is proposed outside #31.  White guide posts and an edge line are proposed adjacent to the speed cushions outside #31, to discourage drivers from veering onto the grass verge to avoid the speed cushions.

The 2 locations have been chosen for their proximity to existing street lighting.  The speed cushions should be effective in slowing traffic and discouraging drivers from using Kintore Street as an alternative to Junction Road during peak times.  If the speed cushions are installed, Council will monitor traffic conditions to determine whether additional speed cushions are needed between Wahroonga Avenue and Grosvenor Street in the future.

Angled slow points are considered to be unsuitable for Kintore Street.  This is due to the prevalence of gutter bridge driveways that extend out into the road.  The angled slow points direct vehicles towards the kerb, and therefore, there is a danger that vehicles would be directed into the path of the gutter bridge driveways.
