Background
Ku-ring-gai's Public Domain Plans guide the design of streets, footpaths and public spaces in the Local Centres, supported by the Community Strategic Plan, the Local Strategic Planning Statement and the Development Control Plan. Six centres already have adopted plans: Turramurra, Gordon, Lindfield, St Ives, Pymble and Roseville.
What's happening?
The NSW Government’s Transport Oriented Development (TOD) program enabled significant increases in high- and mid-rise housing capacity around Killara train station. Ku-ring-gai Council successfully amended the planning controls to deliver the required housing capacity while providing stronger heritage and environmental protections.
Council is now preparing a Draft Killara Public Domain Plan, covering the Killara TOD centre and its immediate surrounds. It will be supported by a transport impact study for the centre.
The plan will set a vision for the centre, including design principles and a high-level concept for footpaths, streetscapes and public space upgrades to support increased housing. It will also help Council plan for development contributions and pursue funding, including state government grants, to deliver public domain improvements over time.
Have your say
This is the first of two engagement phases for the Killara Public Domain Plan. We want to hear from the community now, while the plan is still being shaped, so this feedback can directly influence the design principles and concept plan before it goes to public exhibition. There will be a further opportunity to comment once the draft concept plan is released for Phase 2 public exhibition, but input at this early stage helps set the direction the plan takes from the outset.
Feedback for this stage of consultation is open from 21 August to 18September 2026.
