Project overview

CONSULTATION IS CLOSED

Ku-ring-gai Council is developing a Night-time Economy Action Plan to enhance our community's evening and nighttime offerings. We want to hear from you – local residents, families, young people, seniors, and community groups – about what you'd like to see in our area in the evening and after dark.

Your input will help us create safe, accessible, and enjoyable evening experiences that reflect what our diverse community values and needs.

Project background

What is the Night-time economy?

The Night-time Economy (NTE) includes restaurants, bars, theatres, markets, festivals, live music venues, retail, and creative spaces operating between 6:00pm and 6:00am. Ku-ring-gai's focus is primarily on early evening through to midnight activities.

Why this should matter to you

With Ku-ring-gai's population expected to grow significantly over the next 15 years, we have a unique opportunity to plan for:

  • Family-friendly evening activities that bring the community together
  • Safe and accessible spaces for people of all ages and abilities
  • Cultural and social opportunities that reflect our community's diversity
  • Local job creation in hospitality, retail, and creative industries
  • Convenient services that fit busy modern lifestyles

Real benefits for real communities

Other councils with strategic night-time economy plans have seen positive results:

  • Inner West Council: community events and extended trading hours led to more vibrant local centres and increased community connection
  • Canterbury-Bankstown: strategic planning attracted investment in better lighting, transport, and community facilities
  • City of Parramatta: precinct development created more evening employment opportunities and diverse entertainment options for residents

Important issues that we’ll be considering

  • Safety and access: lighting, transport, disability access, family-friendly activities and venues
  • Community needs: Affordable options, diverse cultural activities, inclusive spaces, neighbourhood events
  • Practical matters: Convenient transport/parking, noise management, balanced operating hours, local business support

Feedback closed 27 July 2025. Thank you to everyone who participated.
