Masterplan for St Ives Showground and Precinct

About the project

Ku-ring-gai Council is developing a masterplan for the St Ives Showground and Precinct that will guide future upgrades for the parklands. We are currently seeking community input to help us create the plan to ensure it meets the needs of current and future users and the wider community.

This page has been set up to hear your views about the site. We're keen to hear what you think about the site, matters that need consideration when making plans for the area including your ideas for future use.

About the site and the Masterplan

The St Ives Showground and Precinct is a 192ha site, located on both sides of Mona Vale Road, St Ives. The precinct includes the Showground, Council Nursery, Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden, former Greenwaste tip site and St Ives Road Safety Centre (now HART and CARES).

The map below details the locations covered by the Masterplan project

The St Ives Showground precinct is a much-valued regional recreation facility for Ku-ring-gai and the wider northern Sydney region, offering events, recreation, sports, and activities within a bush landscape setting.

In 2021, Council prepared and received approval from Crown Lands for a Plan of Management (PoM). The PoM sets the overarching principles and direction for the masterplan and must be adhered to as a regulatory document.   The Masterplan will help guide future improvements while ensuring we maintain the existing natural and cultural heritage of the site.

The Masterplan aims to:

  • Integrate sustainable principles into future improvements
  • Incorporate elements important to the community and users
  • Consider natural biodiversity and cultural heritage values
  • Provide a holistic vision for the future of the precinct to work towards

Developing the Masterplan

A masterplan provides a long-term guide for future development at a site so that each incremental improvement will contribute to the larger plan.

Ku-ring-gai Council develops masterplans with community input in two phases as follows:

  1. Community opinions about the current site and ideas for the future
  2. Exhibition of the Masterplan to ensure it meets needs and expectations

The masterplan is then adopted by Council and implemented when funding becomes available.

We are now in the first phase of commmunity engagement. Get involved by either completing the survey below or provide written comment in the Provide Written Comments function on this page. Your feedback will help us develop the Masterplan which will be subject to further community consultation when the document is publically exhibited.
