Background

Council has received many requests for dedicated right turn bays on both legs of Tryon Road at Archbold Road, Lindfield.

At the moment, there is a single traffic lane on Tryon Road for vehicles approaching the Archbold Road intersection. This means that through traffic on Tryon Road is often delayed by right turning traffic.

The road is currently wide enough for through traffic to get around right turning vehicles on the western side of Tryon Road, but not on the eastern side.

Proposed changes

Line markings will be adjusted to provide dedicated right turn bays on both legs of Tryon Road at Archbold Road. This would significantly increase the intersection's capacity, thereby reducing queuing and delays during peak periods. 

To make room for two lanes, the centre line of Tryon Road will be shifted. The holding lines will be set back slightly from the intersection so that larger vehicles can turn left into Tryon Road from Archbold Road.

To improve accessibility, the existing kerb ramps at the intersection will be upgraded.
