Council has received grant funding through AFL NSW to prepare a concept landscape masterplan for Acron Oval. The masterplan will guide future infrastructure improvements and support further grant applications to fund upgrade works.
About the site
The site sits on Crown Land managed by Council and is zoned as a Sportsfield. Bushland borders it on three sides, and because of this the site is also classified as bushfire prone land.
Existing facilities on site include:
- A community facility building (Family Day Care Resource Centre)
- An amenities building
- Field lighting
- Storage facilities and sight screens
- Bins, seating, a bubbler, picnic shelter, table settings and BBQ
- A rain garden and stormwater harvesting system
- Pedestrian paths and a car park
- A shared dog off-leash area
What could be considered?
The masterplan will look at:
- Field size and condition to support AFL, including warm-up areas and the natural turf wicket
- Spectator seating, scoreboard and fencing
- Field and pedestrian lighting
- Amenities building footprint and use of the community building to the south
- Storage, sight screens and netting
- Accessibility, drainage and general site condition
- Dog off-leash area, passive recreation and the mountain bike trail head
- Interface with surrounding bushland and natural areas
Who we're working with
Council is working with AFL NSW, National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), St Ives AFL, Lindfield Cricket Club and the local community to develop the masterplan.
How we're engaging
- Phase 1 (now): We want to hear what you think of Acron Oval today and what you'd like to see in the future. This feedback will help shape the draft Masterplan.
- Phase 2 (later): The draft Masterplan goes on public exhibition for community comment, before it goes to Council for approval and adoption.
We want to hear from you
Tell us:
- What do you value most about Acron Oval?
- What works well?
- What could be improved?
