New public electric vehicle charging stations
Grant funding has been secured to establish electric vehicle (EV) chargers at five Council car parks.
Evie Networks is the grant recipient and will be responsible for owning and operating the charging stations. Council will allocate the required parking spaces, with the charging stations expected to be up and running in 2025.
The proposed chargers are fast chargers with a capacity of up to 75 kW and will be accessible to the public 24/7.
The facilities are fully funded by Evie Networks and the NSW Government Electric Vehicle Kerbside Charging grant. More information about charging fees can be found in the 'Your questions answered' section.
Approved locations and site layouts may be adjusted depending on the outcome of Council assessment and approval phases.
Why are we supporting this?
Ku-ring-gai has one of the highest numbers of EV registrations in NSW.
To support the uptake of EVs by Ku-ring-gai households, Council is assessing EV charging proposals co-funded by the NSW Government EV Kerbside Charging grants. Electric vehicle ownership is accelerating with EVs offering lower fuel costs, lower maintenance costs and reduced air pollution. Their uptake directly supports Ku-ring-gai's Net Zero by 2040 target.
When EV chargers are located close to retail zones, users of the charging stations are able to access the amenity of shops, cafes and hubs, providing economic benefits to those local businesses.
